Caprock Canyon Camping with the Kopers

Life is a little crazy for the Koper family right now. But a few weeks ago, before things got too crazy, we decided to take a little family trip to relax (sort of) and spend some quiet time together. We left on Friday morning and drove about 3 1/2 hours with a rented camping trailer behind us. We arrived at Caprock Canyon State Park, set up camp, ate some lunch and immediately hit the trails.


The first day we hiked about 6 miles and only saw 2 other people the whole time. It felt like our little family was completely alone in the canyons. We were so proud of Gabby and Steven – they were troopers and walked the whole thing. We hiked up steep inclines, down hills and across dried up river beds. We took lots of breaks for the kids to play and rest.

We were absolutely awestruck at the beauty of the land. It’s amazing that less than 200 miles from Abilene (not exactly the prettiest place on earth) is this beautiful and rugged place.

   
The kids loved seeing the bison. Jack yelled “Bye-bye Bison!!!!” for several minutes after we left the park. He was enthralled.


 
Steve and Steven took 2 hikes up very steep canyon trails while I waited at the base with the little kids. They are so manly.
   In the evenings, the kids laid in the bunk and watched a movie and snacked on popcorn. It was very cozy in our little camping trailer. This was the first camping trip we’ve taken with a trailer and we really enjoyed it. Even more than the trailer, we enjoyed our time together as a family and our time in the beautiful fall air enjoyed in the beauty of creation. It was a trip we will always remember.
